When you mention wedding cakes, many people still imagine the traditional tiered wedding cake with white icing and perhaps some delicate flowers on top. While this traditional style of wedding cake remains popular, there are now plenty of other options to choose from. The contemporary version of traditional wedding cakes might feature coloured icing to fit your wedding’s colour scheme, or maybe even novelty sugar-crafted characters.
If tiered wedding cakes aren’t quite your style, there are, of course, some wonderful alternatives. Fairy or cupcake style wedding cakes are now increasingly popular, as you can give each guest their own individual ‘wedding cake’.
As well as looking fabulous, you want your wedding cake to taste delicious! Fruit cake will always be a popular choice, especially with the more mature generations. It’s also worth remembering that fruitcake has a much longer life and will last longer after your big day. You might also think about serving your wedding cake as dessert.
When looking for wedding cakes, always consider the style of your wedding. Also, consider what your guests will enjoy eating. A rich, heavy chocolate wedding cake would be wonderful in the winter, while a lighter sponge wedding cake might be more suited for summer.
